- Just walk towards the huge Shinjuku Station, then go to the other side of the station. Your hotel is on the West side of the Station, many of the bars and clubs are on the East side. Shinjuku Station is the busiest train station in the world, and busiest in Japan, you can't miss it. Any additional questions, google map of Shinjuku and ask the hotel staff at your hotel. Or just follow the massive crowds walking in that direction, again can't miss it. Many foreigners go clubbing and drinking in Roppongi, which is about 10 minutes by train from Shinjuku, if yout ake the TOEI OEDO LINE train.
- The easiest way is to ask the hotel staff for a map and directions once you get there. It will be about 10 mins walk from the hotel to that general area. But I have an impression that non-Japanese tourists prefer Roppongi for nightlife.
- I don't know the exact location of the Washington Hotel but there are basically two places to cross to the East side of the station from the West side. The first one is across the south end between the "South Exit" and the "New South Exit." There is a busy street that runs perpendicular to the tracks that goes over the tracks where you can make it to the East side. If you see signs for "Mylord", "Lumine", and "Takashimaya", you're in the right place. The second one is across the north end. This is a passage that goes under the tracks. If you're near the "Epson" sign or near the "Sakura Denki" electronic store, you're in the right area. Just follow the throngs of "salarymen" that are headed in that direction and you'll pop up on the East side. Good luck and don't get overwhelmed by the sensory overload!
- I've stayed in a Washington Hotel, and yes, like most hotels in japan it is business oriented. Only the most pricey, and the Ryokans are not business oriented. However I had a pleasant experience in the one I stayed in (downtown Chiba.) The room was a modest size, but very clean and organized. Either way you won't be spending too much time in the hotel room, so it's a great place, fairly cheap, comfortable and a good location. That's all you need. Oh, and just FYI, Shinjuku clubs are NOT the ones a lone foreigner wants to go to. I say Hop the Marnouchi subway to Yotusya station , then jump on the Namboku subway to Roppongi. The Shinjuku clubs are seedy and not exactly safe for an American to be late at night. The Roppongi clubs are the nicer cleaner clubs that cater to foreigners, and not just sleazy old Japanese business men.
