- I guess you are in for a surprise. According to the Department of Labor, employers can tell to work as long as they need you to work, as long as you are paid. And if you are 'salaried" (i.e. exempt - executive, administrative, professional and outside sales employees) they don't have to pay you more than your regular salary, or overtime. According to the Department of Labor's Fair Labor Standards Act https://www.dol.gov/dolfaq/go-dol-faq.asp?faqid=322&faqsub=Work+Hours&faqtop=Wages+%26+Work+Hours&topicid=1 From their Frequently Asked Questions: Question: How many hours per day or per week can an employee work? Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) does not limit the number of hours per day or per week that employees aged 16 years and older can be required to work
