What are the best leg stretches to increase flexibility?

I'm starting dance again and I'm trying to regain my flexibility. What are the best leg stretches to increase my leg flexibility again? Thanks.

  1. Here I don't know much about stretching but I googled these: http://www.abc-of-fitness.com/stretching-exercise/leg-stretch.asp http://www.get-great-legs.com/leg-stretches.html http://www.runtheplanet.com/trainingracing/stretching/chap6-seated.asp http://physicaltherapy.about.com/od/flexibilityexercises/ss/Legstretches.htm Hope I helped!
  2. Sitting in your splits really helps the height of your kicks, leaps, and other things. I think practicing your splits is the most affective way to increase the flexibility of your legs.
  3. try the "froggy". You lie on your stomach with you knees on either side, creating a diamond with your legs, for a while your hips will be off the ground. The aim is to ly flat on the ground with your feet together (pointed) and heels on the ground. You need to this for at least 20 mins + . Also a partnered leg stretch is really good, you ly on your back while someone brings your leg higher and closer to you head, for this the person needs to take hold of your foot as far as they can before you start to push back on them for about 5 counts, then they release it bringing it closer to your head before repeating 3-4 times before just slowly pushing it back. when your foot/leg get close to your body/head you need to take your foot to the side of your body
  4. I'm personally not a big fan of the frog stretch because it is hard on your knees..but my favorites are the butterfly (you probably have done this-sit on butt with soles of feet together, try to get knees to the ground and crotch as close to feet as possible) and basic straddle and splits and for hamstrings, the pike (sit on floor, legs together and reach for your toes) or just bendign over while standing and trying to put your palms on the floor the best one for leg flexibility is definitely "wall stretch" where you lie on your back with your legs in straddle and your butt shoved up against the wall..while the legs rest against the wall you try and relax into the stretch and let gravity do its job and be sure to stretch every single day!
