flexibility training? I would like to be more flexible because I practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. My question is how do I become more flexible? My friend and I had a small argument on the subject. He told me that in order to become more flexible you must perform dynamic stretches where you would "bounce" on the stretches and I told him static training is more important where there is no action and you would just hold that stretch for a period between 15-20 seconds. Which is correct so that I can work on which ever stretch? I have a few flexibility books and they spoke about dynamic stretching and static stretching and from what I understood static stretching was the way to go in order to advancing flexibility. I have this in the diet and fitness forum as well because it matches well with fitness and I figured dancers would need that flexibility as well.

Flexibility training - how much time? By flexibility training, I mean doing the SPLITS. I know what leg muscles are involved and basic exercises for this. The only thing that puzzles me is the time needed for training. Some say you should train everyday, others 2-3 times per day, other say 3-5 times per week... What is the truth? Can somebody with study and experience in the domain explain the process? Cause in my opinion I think the 3-5 times per week is the best training method. Muscles do need their rest, just like in bodybuilding, right? Thanks in advance for any help.

Taekwondo Question: How did my flexibility improve without training? I am a Taekwondo practitioner. I started at 15 and trained till i was 17; attained red belt. I was not flexible at all in the beginning, but doing stretching exercises greatly improved my flexibility. After i stopped training, I lost a lot of flexibility. But I am 22 now, and years after i stopped practicing, I decided to try a few kicks. And to my surprise I was a lot more flexible than before! I have regained almost all of the lower body flexibility that I had the peak of my prowess from when I trained when I was younger. I have not done any stretches or training of any kind. So how has my flexibility improved with age?

How can I greatly increase my flexibility? I'm 15, and slender. I am also the most unflexible person I know. Even though I ran track through middle school, I still can't even get close to touching my toes without extreme pain. What muscles do i MOST need to increase flexibility in for the 1600m and 3200m in track? i know the streches for most leg muscles, but what would be the quickest way to increase my flexibility in whatever muscles it is most necessary? What training exercises should I perform for martial arts? I have been lifting weights for the last couple of years. Most of my training is body building by not so much for cardio fitness and flexibility. Just recently within the last few months, I have taken up martial arts. I have listened to blogs about fitness training and I was just wondering what exercises I could do to help me perform better. Another way of putting this question could be, are there any workout machines that may be able to help me train more effectively?

How can I get more flexibility in knee joints? I am in my late 40's and quite active. I have had numerous knee surgeries in my younger years, all rather minor ones, but I have lost, a long time ago, the ability to squat or kneel and have my hips touch my calves. I have been trying to actively stretch my knee joint and I think the actual ligaments, but my one side is almost and the other is a little further away from complete. If anyone has any PT training or along that line with advise I would appreciate it. As I grow with more birthdays, I am really tring to maintain the most flexibility that I can. All in health. Thanks for any replys.

In live fire police training why don't they use plasma TVs instead of posters? When police and military do urban/hostage training they use posters to shoot at. It would offer more flexibility and they could change the situation pretty fast and provide better training if they swapped the posters for plasma TVs, and with HD, they could get more realistic.

What do you think is the hardest sport and why? I think that boxing and ballet(I know)are the hardest because of the conditioning and the discipline. Boxing is obviously hard because of all the training and meanwhile, somebody's trying to kill you in the ring. Ballet is hard as well because of the discipline and the strength and flexibility training and before you dump on ballet go to a class and then see how hard it is. I don't think I need to convince you about Boxing.
